Over the recent years, I've noticed a downward shift in patient/provider relationships and care. I recall going to medical/dental appointments in which I was treated with respect and valued as a patient. Currently, I am experiencing trends completely opposite. I understand the medical team's need for astringency in the dynamics of held medical appointments. I get it . It costs the medical company money each time a patient cancels or does not make their appointment. Miss one appointment and you will be put on the 'walk in' or call for cancelled appointments or discharged from their facility altogether with no wiggle room, no warning. Again, I get that they have a business to run. With that being said, here is my rant. Please
I confirm appointments via text and the medical facility will text their strict policy right up front. Had confirmed a 10:30 dental appointment yesterday, arrived at and checked in to my appointment at 10:20. Waited in the lobby until 11:20 a.m. (50 minutes past my appointment time). Was brought back to the dental chair, given a bib ...and waited for another 40 minutes. Please note that, not one staff person, acknowledged or apologized for the delay. At 12:05 (an hour and 35 minutes past my appointment time) I finally get up and go to the front desk. Asked if I could re-schedule. I was told that I can no longer make appointments. If I want to be seen at this dentist again, I would have to call and check on cancelled appointments to be seen. I was also told that I will red flagged as a patient. I'm sorry, how is it that their time is valuable yet we can wait for over 90-minutes with no common courtesy or explanation for their delay. Is our time, as patients, not important? replied to the polite clerk, that their dental establishment is red flagged with me. I explained my own personal code of conduct which is that I value my time and I will not wait longer than an hour over my scheduled time. It's not okay. I am not aa number, nor is any other patient. Please treat us with respect and not like we are incarcerated. Inhumane, Not fair. In closing, please treat your patients with common courtesy and the respect in which you are seeking. Don't threaten to discontinue services with me if I don't obey your guidelines yet have double standards and find it perfectly fine to disregard my time. You've been red flagged and you have lost my business. I know they don't care in the end, just wanted to get that off of my chest. Thanks for reading.
