Continental Aircraft Engine E185 Crankshaft
Close inspection to determine if the crankshaft is an airmelt or VAR design, I cannot locate any indication that
this crankshaft is VAR design, so I would assume it is the older (pre 1978) and the log book entry pre 1978 confirms it is of the airmelt design.
From what I have determined is that it is of the airmelt design, then it is not airworthy for certified aircraft use.
It could be used for an air boat, or other applications that don’t require the mandatory replacement at overhaul for a certified aircraft engine.
I’ve had this crankshaft in my inventory for years. If I remember correctly it measured to standard dimensions.
The journals look good, free of corrosion or rust but as always this part will need to be thoroughly inspected prior to use in a non certified aircraft application.
Do you have a need for additional Continental/Lycoming parts? I may have what you are needing. Questions? Simply ask, I will respond rapidly. Thanks, David
