Update: Azzy is still looking for a home! We did discover that he is less comfortable with men he doesn't know than previously thought and would do best in an all female home, or a place where he could be introduced to men slowly.

This is Azzy
This eleven month old unaltered male sweetheart has many of the traits of a typical Mal, lots of energy and strong protective instinct.
He is an absolute cuddle bug but due to both his parents developing unexpected chronic illness, he needs to find a good home with more space and energy to flow into his care.
He is not particularly fond of strange men and while he has never bitten anyone, he has growled and barked when he detected an unsafe situation (ie when my wife was alone with him and a strange man approached).
He is about 85% potty trained, would do well with a strong schedule. (Due to being unaltered, he’s been struggling with his instinct to mark lately)
He is working on his focused heel, he knows sit, down, up, touch, guard (stand between legs) and guard walk (walk between legs).
He has been exposed to cats and while he doesn’t hurt them he does want to play with them and due to his size this can be dangerous.
He loves other dogs of both male and female, sometimes plays a little too rough with small dogs though.
No exposure to livestock though I’ve watched him bark at sheep from a distance.
Kennel trained, though he will bark when he needs something
Some resource guarding has been observed with other dogs.
Learns and trains with ease, would be great to be formally trained
Would love to talk in more detail about his rehome, we really love this guy and want the best for him. He really means a lot to us and he deserves the best.
Thank you for reading
As to why he is not neutered, I don't currently have a job due to sudden onset of disability, and I do not have the means to pay for it at the moment. I 100% believe in spaying/neutering, though I would like it to be noted that he hasn't reached a year yet and for Belgians this is an important milestone to make before neutering to allow his joints to fully develop. Ultimately I am working to find him a home where he will never be in the position he is in right now again.
