This 1998 Epiphone Flying V 1958 Reissue, built in Korea during one of Epi’s most respected production periods, delivers the classic late-’50s V look and feel at an exceptional value. These ’98 Korean-built reissues are known for their solid craftsmanship, comfortable neck profiles, and punchy, vintage-inspired tone. With its Korina-style aesthetics, V-shaped body, and dual humbuckers, this guitar captures the attitude and presence that made the original ’58 Flying V one of the most iconic shapes ever created.
This example was part of one of the collections we recently purchased. All of the guitars in this group were extremely clean and rarely played. This one follows suit. It is very, very near mint with no perceptible fret wear. Pointy guitars always show wear at the tips of the headstock and other extremities. This one is free of such dings. We gave it a full setup, something that every Epiphone needs as it seems that the company doesn't take the time to get them dialed in, and unfortunately their dealers pass them on as they come in. It plays great now! The original hard case is included.
The medium-C neck feels fast and comfortable, while the humbuckers produce warm lows, articulate mids, and the cutting top end the V is known for. Whether used for rock, blues, metal, indie, or classic hard rock, the ’58 V layout offers incredible upper-fret access and stage presence. Korean-era Epiphones like this are increasingly sought after for their build quality and reliability—long favored by players as roadworthy workhorses.
Players often praise these late-’90s Vs: “Korean Epiphones punch WAY above their price” (The Gear Page), “Neck feels better than newer models” (Reddit r/Guitar), “Great resonance and sustain” (Harmony Central), “Perfect mod platform” (TDPRI), and “One of the best affordable V reissues” (MyLesPaul Forum).
Notable Flying V players include Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, K.K. Downing, Michael Schenker, and Lenny Kravitz, all of whom helped turn this design into a rock icon.
