January 27 - February 12, 2010

The program for protecting the Marine Turtles is run since 1996 together with the Michoacan University and the local people of Colola Beach. This year again the international volunteers will work with the people of Colola village to protect the sea turtles. There are two kinds of turtles that arrive on the beach, the Negra (Black Turtle) and the Golfina (Olive Riddle Turtle). The people involved in the project help by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information.
In this frame, a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.
The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the turtle protection program, promoting international cooperation and solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out at night since the turtles do not get out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles go out of the ocean in the dark). Together with the people from Colola Village, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Local people, who are very friendly, work with the group and explain them what to do.
Very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles are needed for this project.
There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets of the town or helping to arrange a multi-use playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning work, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The people of the town are very open to participate in other activities that the group of volunteers can propose, so any ideas will be welcome.
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around. The closest city is Tecoman at 200 kilometers, but other villages such as La Placita that are closer (45 minutes by bus) can offer Internet connection.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 604-628-7400

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org/workcamps.htm

They also make and enjoy very delicious food and cakes, especially “Chung” cake which is square sticky rice cake that all Vietnamese make only for Tet. However, there are still poor people and street children who do not have money for buying or making “Chung” cake.
The international volunteers will join a group of local people and volunteers to make "Chung" cake for the poor people and then give them out as happy gifts for the Lunar New Year. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. Reykjavik offers both the features of a modern and innovative society and the marvelous traits of a pristine and unique landscape.
The population of the Reykjavik Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula offering a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every part of the city.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier towers over the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The volunteer work during this project will mostly consist in embellishing the downtown area and helping the local authorities improve the city’s look and atmosphere. Tasks will include cleaning tags and painting old houses. We will be mostly working outdoors giving a hand to the environmental department in taking care of the parks and green areas in the heart of Reykjavík. In addition to that, we might also clean the coastline in the city area.
Project language: English
Age range: 18 and over

More information and enrollment: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-iceland.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please go to: www.cadip.org or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

The Glenn County Human Resource Agency is looking for Volunteer Tax Preparers for this year’s National VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The program provides FREE income tax assistance for low income families, the elderly, and the disabled whose income is $49,000 or less and individuals below $24,000 a year. This is a great opportunity to serve your community while gaining valuable work experience. Volunteers receive free training and are certified by the IRS. Last year the VITA program brought just over $170,000 to the Glenn County economy through EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) and other tax refunds. VITA provides valuable assistance to people by generating free financial education and tax preparation. Volunteers should be prepared to donate 2 to 4 hours per week from mid January through April 15. Volunteers should be friendly, reliable, able to maintain confidentiality, and willing to learn basic computers skills.

Hi, my name is Alejandro Moreno, I'm a grad student in the Green MBA program at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA. I'm working on a water-saving project which is due at the end of this fall semester, and part of that project are the results of this survey. The project is focused on Northern California and the water issues we face. This survey is completely anonymous and confidential. None of the results will be shared with any utility company or telemarketers or anything like that. Your results will help me with my project for school but most importantly, they will be shared with non-profit organizations that help save our precious water. It will take about 10 minutes to complete.
